Zac Broughton- Candidate for SGA President
Zac Broughton is a junior majoring in political science and legal studies, and he is originally from Salem, MA.
Zac is the youngest of five children. He is the first of his siblings and parents to go to college, and he only had that opportunity because of the accessibility and affordability of UMass. Zac knows first hand how important this university is to young men and women like himself who want a quality education and can’t afford a pricey private school.
Zac has spent much of his time outside of the classroom working for students in the SGA. He spent his first two years as a Senator on the Ways and Means Committee, working with hundreds of student groups to help them get the funding they need to successfully program and expand their organizations. He now serves as the SGA Secretary of Finance. Zac spends his time advising student groups on how to raise money for their events and how to navigate the complex budget process. This year he successfully lead the SGA campaign to raise the Student Activities Trust Fund fee to $125 in order to give student groups more support.
Zac is a proud Brother of Pi Kappa Phi and a member of the UMass Democrats, where he previously served as the treasurer. He is a second year RA in Pierpont and he spent the last two summers working as a New Students Orientation Counselor. Zac has spent the past year raising $5,500 for Journey of Hope, an event which will have him biking across the country from California from Washington DC this summer. Journey of Hope is an event that raises money and awareness for individuals with disabilities.
Zac is a political nerd and enjoys watching C-SPAN and the West Wing, perhaps a little too much. He also enjoys spending his free time reading and relaxing with his brothers or residents.
